Wat Yai Chaimongkol was built in 1592 by one of Ayutthaya’s greatest kings: King U-Thong. It is located outside the city of Ayutthaya and one can see its large pagoda from far away. This temple was an ancient school of meditation and the chedi is surrounded by sitting Buddhas.

Wat Yai Chaimongkol is a magnificent ancient royal monastery and a symbolic monument of pride for the Thai people. The beautiful surrounding gardens host a Reclining Buddha, a White Buddha statue, a standing Buddha image named Buddha Chaimongkol and dozens of other images.

Wat Yai Chaimongkol is open everyday from 8.00 AM to 6.00 PM.
